How long has Gymboree been in business?

Gymboree Play Programs began in 1976. Joan Barnes, our founder, for lack of classes specifically for young children and their parents to attend put together structured, developmental based, programs and began a class on a local basis in Marin, California. With the success that followed two years later in 1978 Gymboree began to franchise its unique program and we have been growing ever since.

Gymboree in Singapore is a Master Franchise of Gymboree USA for Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. Rita and Mohan Mulani bought its franchise from United States in 1994. They had liked the program when they visited Gymboree in USA. Gymboree in Singapore and Malaysia is run by Rita as it gives her the flexibility and total independence to run the business and to be a homemaker. During that time, Rita had two young children and Gymboree programs offered her the time for the children and yet permitted her to establish her own career. Being many years in this industry, Gymboree has proven itself that it is a well-managed business. In addition, Gymboree has made it a success with the efforts of its well-trained teachers and dedicated staff.

Through the years, Gymboree at Tanglin Mall has established a solid base of clienteles. Part of Gymboree's success is contributed to the free advertising,"word of mouth." It has earned the confidence and respect of parents. Parents take pride to come to Gymboree classes.

In view of this, Gymboree wants to share its success and decided to market its franchise program.

What type of franchises does Gymboree offer?

We offer two distinctive business models depending on the needs and potential of the intended market.

Gymboree Play & Music centers are full service centers offering a large range of developmental programming including leveled and age appropriate developmental play programs, and art and music classes. The Play & Music centers are intended for major urban and suburban markets.

For smaller and emerging markets we developed the Gymboree Metro Play Center, which is located in a smaller location offering a limited selection of the programming offered at a Play & Music center. After analyzing your intended market area we will determine which of our business models best suits the opportunity.
